Research

My research in health and organizational communication focuses on the politics of illness prevention and health promotion.
-
I investigate how illness attributions (diagnostic framing) facilitate or impede organizing to address the structural root causes of health disparities. I focus particularly on the role of health activism and community organizing in challenging corporate influences on occupational, environmental, and economic health.
-
Theoretical concerns include power, resistance, and transformative social change, corporate issues management and health social movements, as well as participatory communication and dialogue.
